Joining Kat and friends. Go see what the others are up to.

Knitting.*

I finally finished that disgusting gray hat. Knitting with cotton — except for dishcloths — is Not For Me. Maybe this would have been better if at least the color entranced me, but the gray just made it worse.

er

After that heinous gray cotton knitting, I cast on for a wool hat. Much better.

I swatched for the baby blanket, just to have something else to knit. Based on that I think the US#4 needle gives the best fabric of this sport-weight yarn.

It’s time to mail off the blue hats to the Blue Hat Project.

And that is the knitting situation here at Chez Kat™

Reading.

The Locked Room / Elly Griffiths. This is the latest book in the Ruth Galloway series, and imho, was not quite as good as the earlier ones. The title only vaguely ties to the plot, and the plot seemed to me to be…loose. Not neatly tied into itself. The book is set in March and April, 2020, which was the early days of the pandemic; pandemic is woven nicely into the story (see, I can still find something I liked even though the book rates only 3★s). Ruth’s daughter, born between the second and third book, is now eleven. Ruth has a new neighbor who is, I think, destined to become a repeating character; Zoe is a good person in spite of having a criminal record. Nelson can hang out with Ruth a lot because his wife got stranded at her mother’s when Britain declared a lockdown. 3★

Diagnosis by Lisa Sanders, MD. Ever since I found out that Elder Son was going to be a doctor, I have read every book about medicine that I come across. This author has written a New York Times column since 2002 which details a puzzling case and its eventual diagnosis. This book is a collection of such cases. Almost all have an eventual diagnosis and successful treatment; a few resolve themselves and a few remain puzzling. When I asked ES if he ever read her column, he said NO in a way that implied I was asking if he read Dick & Jane books. Oh, yeah, he rejects all medical writings for the general public; probably because he only reads journal articles and other peer-reviewed study and the like. 4★

Listening.

I haven’t been consuming audiobooks since I finished Harlem Shuffle 😦

Watching.

China Beach. Smokey bought the third season because it was very hard to get it through the library; only one copy and we would have had to wait until the other person finished it and returned it. A mere $7 and we had our very own copy. The episodes are getting darker as the war continues. 4★

* I discovered a free website that will remove the background from photos. No more hunting around for a good place in the house to take photos — yay!

That is a lovely passel of blue hats! 🙂

  2. gayle says:

I struggle with photo backgrounds, too. Thanks for the link!

  3. Jane says:

You have lots of warm hats for someone. I haven’t watched China Beach for ages but I really liked it – perhaps because I was in high school and college during the Vietnam War. And now you know how old I am – LOL.

  4. Kym says:

I was wondering how you got your “floating” hat photos! Thanks for the link! 🙂 Your hat knitting is impressive!!! XO

  5. That’s a lot of hats! And thank you for the reminder on why I tend to avoid knitting with cotton.
