Time for rants, 5/25/22.

And now we return to our regularly scheduled rants.

And now we return to our regularly scheduled rants.

For some reason the sound track starts at :14. Hang in there.

As I have maintained since early 2020, the Republicans are killing off their base.
Will that affect future elections? Stay tuned.

You know how *they* say that eventually everyone will have had COVID? Well, today it was my turn. On Tuesday I had an extremely hoarse voice that lingered into Wednesday, plus the occasional sneezing fit and an unproductive cough. Took an at-home COVID test yesterday; yup, positive.

Thinking back, I know when I was exposed: last Wednesday I spent most of the day in the company of a friend. First, knitting group, then book group. And she rode with me to the latter. That was Wednesday; Thursday she didn’t go to work, thinking she just had a cold. On Friday she went to the county health department for a COVID test — positive. She immediately email everyone who was either group.

My symptoms are mild — the hoarse voice, sneezing, cough. No fever; I took my temp at the same time as the test. 97.1Ëš. I am a little tired, that’s all.

As soon as I saw the test results I emailed the knitters and book club-ers to let them know. And I emailed both sons. The doctor emailed back:

Well it’s good you’ve both had 4 shots, and that it’s omicron rather than delta.  I’d advise you to get plenty of rest, and if you need to take symptomatic meds to sleep then take those (but not Benadryl or diphenhydramine, because you’re over age 65).  Most importantly, go to the ER if you feel out of breath or get chest pain.  But I’d guess your symptoms will probably be pretty mild.

I had to ask him about the “no Benadryl or diphenhydramine if you are over 65” part. He sent me a 2019 21-page research report on drugs that are contraindicated for older adults (American Geriatrics Society 2019 Updated AGS Beers Criteria® for Potentially Inappropriate Medication Use in Older Adults).

Sometimes he knows just too much for we ordinary people.

P.S. Smokey tested negative yesterday, but it is probably just a matter of time until he is positive, too.

A friend was waiting to see if she needed the fourth shot. Thursday she spent 4 hours in ER to get the antiviral. Sunday was supposed to be her birthday party. I hope it was cancelled? Take care!
