French president Macron is kicking ass and taking names.
“At the same time, the world grew for the vaccinated in France. Self-isolation times for those with full vaccine doses who test positive, Macron’s government said, would drop from 10 days to seven on Monday, and five days with a negative test result.
“Macron’s explosive remarks — made ahead of an expected reelection bid in April — assumed a certain calculus: That the perceived selfishness of the unvaccinated had pushed a share of the population to the breaking point.
“After critics derided the crude language he deployed as unpresidential, Macron remained unbowed: ‘When some make from their freedom … a motto, not only do they put others’ lives at risk, but they are also curtailing others’ freedom. That I cannot accept,’ he told reporters in Paris on Friday. ‘When you are a citizen, you must agree to do your civic duty.’
“BBC Paris correspondent Hugh Schofield reasoned that Macron was issuing a challenge to political rivals. ‘Are they with him, doing everything possible to boost the number of vaccinated?’ Schofield wrote. ‘Or are they siding with the minority, the five million instead of the 50 million, and the anti-vaxxers?’”
That list of hoped for things… oh boy, a resounding YES to all of them!
And Macron…sigh. I have always loved him but this: ‘When some make from their freedom … a motto, not only do they put others’ lives at risk, but they are also curtailing others’ freedom. That I cannot accept,’ he told reporters in Paris on Friday. ‘When you are a citizen, you must agree to do your civic duty.’
YES!
I also watched, “Don’t Look Up.” on Netflix, and recognized the skewing of the values of the media that are tailored to things other than the welfare of humanity. It seems as if the media which have opposite opposed channels find small things that they focus on, blow up and distort to make their side feel superior. The headlines for each YouTube clip are distorted and magnified so as to twist the truth. Each uses mockery of the other. They are committed to their own popularity. It seems like a taffy pull. I know well-enough the nature and character of the former POTUS that I refuse to watch these additional mundane examples of his on-going untruths. Neither side represents the highest ideals of humanity to get us out of this mess but will drown any who participate in a committed way in the quicksand mire of the battle. I choose to step beyond this partisanship not only of the tv channels but also of the two main political parties because only there will there be true freedom. I do prefer the more liberal policies towards the underdogs of one party in American society, but as long as they are engaged in the partisan battle, the progress desired will dissipate into the struggle and tug-of-war.
I would give up the no-calorie chocolate in order to get that laundry-folding machine…
I hit the wall today. Or maybe it was yesterday. I don’t know anymore. The sun never shines. I haven’t seen the stars since it was too cold to go outside (thanks the crows for windows). I’m knitting a grey sock. And I’m tangentially involved with a production of Godspell. The wall is also grey.
At least I didn’t wake up as a bug.
And! in a moment of paying attention to the wrong thing, I bought fucking “cinnamon infused” maple syrup. Who on this green earth thinks there is any reason on this green earth to mess with maple syrup? This is an abomination on the order of that Goober stuff – the peanut butter/grape jelly in the same jar? After a couple of days it was so horrible looking even my 7-year-old self refused. Tomorrow I buy real maple syrup.
‘When you are a citizen, you must agree to do your civic duty.’
That. We all need to take that to heart, and there are waaaaay too many people who never learned it in the first place.
