Where I’ve been.
Where else I’ve been.
Now try to guess if any of those workers get Labor Day off…
Think most of them will get either Labor Day or an alternate day, or time and a half pay, or in some cases double time….thanks to union contracts…but not the farmer
I’ve read all of Moby Dick twice, and parts of it several more times. All the people on the ship signed on knowing they would get a portion of the final cash-out. It’s how small farmers work. Not quite sharecropping, but debt to the bank rather than the landowner.
Or are you referring to the people with the dangerous jobs? Electrical workers and airline pilots are unionized, but the rest aren’t. Tons of construction is day labor. Not loggers. Just some guy with a truck and a chain saw. Garbage men are unionized in some places, big cities. Not here. Not truckers. Not fishermen. There’s a whole lot of people at the bottom of the heap now.
And alternate day? Oh, that day you spend going to the doctor or the dentist because you don’t get paid time off – or time off in general – any other way?
Just saying.
Yeah, it’s really frustrating how only the “sexy” service jobs get recognized.
