I hate to be cynical (not), but this bit from a regional online newspaper made me happy:
States with Republican governors are projected to have a greater increase in fatalities than those with Democratic governors, according to a new Yahoo Finance analysis of the University of Washington Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) coronavirus projected death toll model. In fact, according to the analysis, the COVID-19 pandemic is hitting harder in counties where President Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 general election.
This reinforces something I said over a week ago: the Republicans are gonna kill off their voters with all this push to re-open.
You may have seen the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s decision yesterday to nullify our governor’s and DHS commissioner’s extension of the safer-at-home order to May 26. That bar & restaurant owner that I referenced yesterday can open just like he wanted to, without fear of losing his liquor license or insurance coverage. The only teeny bright spot is that one of the conservative justices broke ranks and voted with the liberal justices. (If Justice Jill, who beat out a conservative justice in the April election, were seated now, the vote would have been 4-3 to let the governor’s edict stand. If only…)
There is one more confirmed positive coronavirus case in our county. Up to six now; still waiting for the rural spike, but given that SCofWI decision, it won’t be long now.
Younger Son set up a family Zoom meeting for Saturday morning. I am so looking forward to it!
Company meetings.

Thanks to Mary Jo for those two videos, and thanks to gayle and others who continue to send me links for the blog. You give me strength to carry on — we truly are all in this together!
Thanks for the videos! I enjoyed them both.
We’ve been gathering on Zoom with friends and family every Friday evening for ‘Happy Hour’ and we’ve found an online trivia game that we’ve begun playing one night a week as well. (The trivia is fun – though they inform you that at this time all prizes are whatever you happen to find in your refrigerator…)
I laughed – so hard! – at the risk of bear attack chart. phew. Today might have been hard.

The videos! Brilliant! (and I am with her on button pants… and perhaps bras, lol)
So many clever videos being done about COVID. People have time at home to be creative! Thanks for sharing these!
My daughter who lives in Wisconsin mentioned the Supreme Court vote and we talked about how the virus has been spreading to smaller towns now. She is cautious and so she will not go out into crowds.
It is a shame that COVID has become such a political issue so that some people cannot trust research and science! Stay safe!
Oh, and here is a smile for you!

In line with Scrooge, perhaps some people should die and decrease the surplus population.
I love the bear chart! Also the Golden Cow comparison. 🙂
Stay safe out there. I’m sorry to hear about the WI Supreme Court decision. I just can’t understand where some people are coming from. I just had a call with my work team where my boss asked us all how we felt about the possibility of going back to the office on June 1st if the county allows us to. (Most people: “fine, no problem.” Me and two others: “very concerned!”) Then she proceeded to tell us that the company’s owners were pleased with how well everything was going with everyone working from home, but there wasn’t going to be the option to WFH once the company decides to open the office again. (Me, thinking: “so it doesn’t matter how well things are running now, you don’t trust us to keep working at home once you have the option to make us come to the office again…”) :eyeroll:
