It’s winter carnival time in Luck, WI.

Above, you see the beginnings of the annual ice castle. I am pretty sure the builders are glad the polar vortex moved on; Saturday’s temp when I took this photo was 60˚ warmer than earlier in the week. No shortage of ice this year! As I watched, one guy on a ladder poured a bucket of water over (and into?) the top blocks, presumably to encourage them to freeze together and thereby strengthen the wall. If I am in Luck after dark sometime in the next week or so I’ll get a photo of the castle lit up.

It takes a village – and Luck is an amazing supportive village. They accomplish amazing things for a small town. Yes I’m biased

Looks like fun! We don’t get enough seasonal variety to ever have an ice festival.

This reminds me of the festival of the same name held each winter in Houghton, MI! So.Much.Fun!
