The “knit something for an Afghan child” link reminded me: you might really like the novels of Nadia Hashimi. She has one, in particular, about a girl in Afghan, and it was riveting (and sad…but such a good read)…hmmm, maybe it was called THE PEARL THAT LOST ITS SHELL?
