FO Friday: we won!

The school where my kids went was built in 1958, before Title IX, before handicapped kids were mainstreamed, before the technology revolution. A;though there have been some additions and improvements since then, the school needs some drastic upgrades. The science classrooms have not been updated since 1958. There is not enough gym space for the various teams to practice — some practices have to be scheduled at 9pm because that is the only time one of the gyms is available. One gym doubles as the auditorium; if there is an assembly or presentation, the elementary kids cannot have recess (except in early fall or late spring, assuming it isn’t raining). The heating system is way past its expected life.

So the school district put a referendum on the ballot last April for a bond issue to update and remodel the school. It failed 😦

The referendum was repeated with some modifications last Tuesday, and it passed :-). The success was probably due to a lot of effort by door knockers, letters to the editors, lawn signs (“We ♥️ our kids”), phone bankers, and one-on-one conversations.

Unity victory

Let’s play Spot the Kat™, shall we?

That’s awesome! We built a new school in our town a few years ago and it’s wonderful.
