Home again!

We got home at about 6 am today. (Smokey loves to drive at night.) Our reservation in the Black Hills campground had one more night left, but it was so hot we decided to leave for home — the cool woods and lakes of northern Wisconsin were calling to us.

Imagine our dismay to arrive home to the worst heat wave in recent memory… and no power at the house. No air conditioning, no fans. There had been severe thunderstorms on Sunday night, and apparently a power line had gone down somewhere.

We crawled into the beds in the basement where it was reasonably cool and slept most of the day.

Electricity was restored later in the morning, so our bedroom is now cool and the ceiling fan in my [non-air-conditioned] office is whirling the air.

Full report(s) later, but rest assured that the lace shawl is still progressing nicely 🙂

Welcome home. It’s really hot. . . (and I’m really whining).

Better lace than a wool project, eh? Glad you got home safely! Bummer about the heat wave. Ugh.

Welcome home! (Sorry about the heat – I’ve done my time in the basement this year so I’m especially sympathetic.)
This too will pass … and then we’ll whine about snow 😉

Glad you made it home safe, kat. And had a great vacation. We went to the Black Hills about 4 yrs ago, middle of September; tent camping. Temps then were in the 90’s; Badlands were 106-110 degrees!! And it doesn’t cool off at night! Yikes.
So glad your power came back on. We’re supposed to get this heat and humidity for another 2 days. Hope that ends the heat from hell for the rest of the summer! Stay cool!!

Welcome home … looking forward to tales of the trip.

I’m glad you all got home safely and I’m thrilled that the power is back on. Talk about hostile return home. o.0

Do you keep beds in the basement on a regular basis?

  8. Chris says:

What a welcome… Suppose you had to throw out everything in fridge and freezer.

  9. Sara says:

Congrats on the BGFE and #2 making if official! She’ll be the BDILE… Best Daughter-in-Law Ever!

    Welcome home!
Even Vermont is engulfed in heat and humidity. And we’re totally unprepared…
